The World Series is just about to start – and you could be in the seats for Game 4!
Come into the office on Wednesday, October 26th, and you might win one of two 3rd base side, lower-level tickets to see our hometown Phillies battle it out with the Houston Astros!
And that’s not all! We’re also having a special tailgate lunch at the office, plus World Series hats to win. It’s going to be a great time – and a great chance to be in the park to see what could be the deciding game of the 2022 Series. But you have to be in the office on Wednesday to enter and win!
See you Wednesday, and good luck!

President’s Day Holiday Hours
Good afternoon,
It's hard to believe that we're already one month into 2023, and we hope this year has been great for you so far. Below is the 2023 holiday schedule through the rest of the year, as well as reminders on floating holidays and early closings prior to holidays:
2023 Holiday Schedule
Floating Holidays
If a public holiday falls on a weekend and isn’t observed the following business day, employees will receive an additional floating holiday to be used during the year.
Early Closing
When possible, on the business day prior to the holiday, employees may end their workday two hours before the end of their regularly scheduled workday. Managers are responsible for determining whether an early release can be granted based upon business needs.
As always, thank you for your hard work and dedication throughout the year. Have a great rest of your day.

Hello,
It's official: The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are facing off in Super Bowl LVII!
Only one team can take home the trophy. But the important question is, which office will get bragging rights – Philadelphia or Moberly? And the really important question is, which office will get to begin work two hours later than their scheduled start time on Monday, February 13th, if their team wins?
It looks like it could be a close one! To get ready for the Super Bowl showdown, come into your office wearing your favorite jersey or other team gear on Wednesday, February 8th, and take some time out for food and fun at a pre-game tailgate lunch, courtesy of LEAF.
May the best team win! Enjoy the tailgate lunch – and remember, if your office's team takes the championship, you get to sleep in a little longer!
See you at the tailgate!

Hello,
With the new California finance disclosure requirement going into effect this week, it's important that we’re all on the same page and communicating a clear, consistent message about this regulation across all touchpoints with partners and customers.
For those who aren’t familiar with this change, beginning on December 9, 2022, the state of California will require new disclosures to be included with documentation for certain finance transactions, including those financed by LEAF.
Please see the FAQ linked below to get familiar with the California disclosure requirement. Please also take some time to review the linked talking points so you're prepared to answer questions and highlight the importance of compliance to avoid processing delays and other potential slowdowns. Hello,
Giving back is core to the missions of M&T Bank and LEAF, and in a previous email, we mentioned a requirement that all LEAF employees must volunteer 40 hours of paid time each year.
However, as we continue to align with the bank and learn more, there is no specific requirement regarding volunteer hours, and the amount of time spent volunteering is entirely up to each individual, though the bank and LEAF still does highly encourage volunteering 40 hours each year.
So with that in mind, if you’ve already volunteered any of your time this year, thank you for being part of our effort to give back to our communities! And if you haven’t yet used up the bank’s generous allotment of paid volunteer hours, please consider taking full advantage of them as your schedule allows.
Until next time,
Crit and Miles
Good afternoon,
Both M&T Bank and LEAF are committed to making a positive impact in our communities, and the cornerstone of that commitment is giving every employee 40 paid hours each year to support the cause of their choice.
Think about that for a moment: every one of us here at LEAF gets an entire workweek to help better the lives of others. And that means together, we're able to put 18,000 hours back into our communities.
It's exciting to think about how big a difference that can make. So as we near the midway point of the year, we'd like to challenge everyone to make it a priority to take advantage of all those volunteer hours. Whatever your schedule, however you think you can help best, there's an opportunity for you.
Maybe you'd like to join MANNA in nourishing those with serious medical illnesses. Or help Habitat for Humanity build a home where a struggling family can make new memories. Maybe you'd like to invest in the future of a child as a Big Brother or Sister or volunteer virtually to help the Smithsonian transcribe fragile historical documents. Just look at some of the ways people across LEAF are sharing their time and talent:
See Volunteer Photos on the LEAF Employee Hub
Remember, all LEAF employees are required to log 40 volunteer hours each calendar year, and to make it easier, you can put in that time during work hours. Whether you volunteer in big chunks or little bits here and there, it all adds up to changed lives and stronger communities.
We’d also like to thank everyone who completed the recent bank-wide Engagement Survey. Your feedback is essential for helping ensure a workplace that works for everyone, and we strongly encourage everyone to participate in all surveys conducted by the bank, as well as focus groups, CommunityOne, and other opportunities to make your voice heard.
Until next time,
Crit and Miles

Good morning,
For many months now, we, as a team, have adjusted to the ongoing business conditions. With little notice, we went to a fully remote service model. Last year, as more businesses began to return to work in the office, we generally began working in the office one day a week and from home the other four. Our team successfully grew our business, all while servicing our customers.
However, there feels like something is missing from us. We were thinking about the holiday parties and how nice it was to all be together. We keep hearing that it is hard to innovate on Teams calls, and we heard it was harder for fully remote people who received their equipment to get it fired up and working than those who benefited from tech people in the office. Remember when you were a newer employee, and you could ask your neighbor a quick question rather than having to type out a question and wait for a response or perhaps go "back n' forth" to get the question "really answered." Who misses the "water cooler" or lunchroom chat about sports. It seems to us that we are at best "maintaining" the business and our relationships, and to truly evolve them, we need more time back together and in front of our partners.
As a result of these reasons and others, LEAF is returning two days a week to the office and three days at home, starting May 1, 2023, for all hybrid and full-time in-office workers.
We know this is a significant change. But with one more day in the office, there is, even more we can accomplish together.
We know that this is exciting news for some, and for others, they will be disappointed as this will change more routines. But this is truly necessary for us.
In closing, we want to thank each of you as we contribute toward LEAF’s success.
We are looking forward to welcoming each of you back to the office.
Crit and Miles
Good afternoon,
With another busy year winding down in the closing days of December, it's holiday time again, when many of us slow our pace a little to catch our breath, gather with the people who bring so much to our lives, and reflect on what we've accomplished in the past year while anticipating all we can achieve in the next.
And if anyone deserves a break, it's all of you. You've been working very hard and rising to some seriously complex challenges throughout 2022. Thanks to your efforts, we've got a lot of momentum heading into 2023.
Everyone is – as always – absolutely knocking it out of the park. No matter how big the ask, no matter how much you already have on your plates, you find a way not just to get it done, but to deliver beyond all expectations.
That's worth celebrating, and we're so glad we were able to come together in person and virtually at our office holiday parties to celebrate what only a team like ours could do in such a remarkably coordinated, seamless, and successful way.
Thanks for everything you do every day to keep the company moving ahead. And to all of you, best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!
Crit and Miles
Good morning,
Ever have one of those days where you feel like you got a lot accomplished? Multiply that by nine months and over 400 people to get a sense of just how much progress we made as a company in the first three quarters of 2022.
Through Q3, originations exceeded budget across nearly every business unit. We successfully transitioned from remote to hybrid work. We also became a full member of the M&T Bank family. And through everything, we’ve supported our favorite causes through the company volunteer program.
None of that happens without a lot of hard work by a lot of great people – especially in a season where we make a point of saying thank you for all the good in our lives, we can’t tell you enough how much we appreciate it.
As we enter our busiest time of year and the holiday season, one of the items on your crowded to-do list might be finishing up your volunteer hours. Don’t forget you can volunteer up to 30 hours during work hours. Whenever you choose to volunteer, be sure to log your hours in myCommunity. For more on the volunteer program, visit https://mtb.yourcause.com/home#/.
Also, please take a moment to complete the post-conversion survey linked in the recent email from M&T Bank and share your thoughts about the conversion – we really value your insight!
Finally, in the rush to prepare for the holidays and take care of everything else that needs taking care of before year-end, remember to care for yourself and don’t hesitate to reach out to your manager if there’s anything we can do to help.
Q4 will wrap up before we know it, and based on our Q3 numbers we’ll look back in January and congratulate ourselves on having a great year. Or, rather, working incredibly hard to make a great year happen.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And thank you again for all you’ve done so far in 2022. We can’t wait to see how far we can go together as we work to finish the year strong and get a running start in 2023!
Crit and Miles
Hello,
Volunteering makes life better for others and helps build stronger communities for all of us. And even small gifts of time and talent can make a huge difference when you add them all up.
You can literally change the course of someone’s life an hour – or even a half-hour – at a time. And it’s especially true when we’re all part of it. It’s no wonder M&T Bank values volunteerism so highly and takes such pride in the way its people take time out to help others, as noted in the recent email on volunteerism at M&T.
At LEAF, we also value the positive impact volunteers can have on the lives of those around them and admire the initiative of companies that lead the way in helping to improve the communities in which they operate. So, in alignment with M&T Bank, one of our corporate goals requires all LEAF employees to volunteer 10 hours each year in support of causes that are important to them.
Where and how can you volunteer? There are opportunities to fit every personality, skill set, and schedule. A great place to start is at the link below, where you can find in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities, as well as get answers to your questions about the program, log your volunteer hours, and more.
Learn More About How You Can Help
As mentioned in M&T’s recent email, it’s important to log all your personal volunteer hours. Keep in mind that each of you have 30 volunteer hours you can use when requesting time off in Workday for volunteering during regular work hours.
Volunteering is a great way of saying thanks for all we have and paying forward the help we’ve received in our own lives. So find a cause that matters to you and be part of making your community an even better place to call home.

Good afternoon,
Last month, we asked you to support the important work of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Foundation (ELFF) and the many ways the foundation advances our industry and its people. This month, we have some exciting news on the impactful difference the ELFF has made on of one our own.
We are thrilled to announce that one of our interns in our California office, Delaney Poore, has been selected as one of this year’s recipients of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Foundation’s Scholarship Program for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Delaney was awarded this scholarship in recognition of her impressive application, strong academic record, and interest in equipment finance. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the California State University, Fullerton. This $5,000 scholarship will help her with the cost of her tuition this fall.
Please join us in congratulating Delaney on this significant accomplishment.
Have a great rest of your day,
Crit and Miles
Hello,
Using the right terms to refer to the people we work with is a basic part of affirming their identity as they define it and signaling our acceptance of it. As part of our effort to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace, we’re updating our email signature guidance to allow the inclusion of optional gender pronouns – she/her/hers, he/him/his, they/them/theirs.
Including preferred pronouns in email signatures is completely optional. But whether or not you choose to, please do others the courtesy of referring to them by any preferred pronouns expressed in their email signatures.
Together, we can create a more inclusive work environment for everyone. For more information on gender identity and preferred pronouns, plus guidelines for updating your email signature and LinkedIn profile, please take a moment to visit the linked resources below.

Good morning,
It’s been a long wait, but it’s finally time to open our office doors wide and welcome back all the incredibly capable and highly valued people whose hard work, determination, and resourcefulness made it possible for us to keep moving the business forward during the past two years of extraordinary challenges.
July 11th, our first official day back, will be a big day, so we want to celebrate with a big week of events and activities to make all of you feel as appreciated as you so very much are – and as missed as you have been.
First, lunch. That’s on us. Each office will provide food, and you’re encouraged to take your time over lunch to catch up with coworkers you may not have seen for well over two years.
Speaking of catching up, we’ll also have a corner dedicated just for that, with places to sit and talk, cornhole boards if you want to have a quick game, and cameras for selfies and photos with friends and coworkers. We also hope you’ll take advantage of the 15-minute chair massages that will be available in each office on specific days to welcome you back.
Finally, to help you enjoy your time away from the office, we’re giving away YETI coolers in each location. These coolers are big, tough, and perfect for summer getaways, patio parties, and backyard barbeques. This is a special giveaway just for those who come into the office during the first week, so be sure to submit an entry in person for a chance to win.
Check with your manager for your office’s daily activities schedule, but whichever day you’re able to make it in, it’s going to be a great time, like it was for the below group who recently got together at the Moberly office. More than that, it’s going to be an opportunity – the first in a long while – to reconnect teams and reestablish our sense of community as we move to a hybrid work model designed to support you in continuing to do great work.
Good afternoon,
When we first closed our offices in response to the pandemic, most of us thought we’d be working at home for a month or two, or maybe even a few months, but then it would be back to the office and business as usual.
That was about two and a half years ago. And by now, it’s pretty clear that business as usual has changed.
Finally, though, the world is opening up again. And that means it’s time for our offices to open again, too. As mentioned in a recent email from M&T Bank, starting Monday, July 11th, everyone is invited to return to the office one day per week. But with a difference.
For now, you’ll continue to work at home four days a week, doing the same incredible job you have been doing since we closed our offices in March 2020. Then, one day each week, we want you to come into the office. Not just to do what you do at home with a change in scenery, but to take advantage of the kind of community, collaboration, and teamwork that is best achieved when we’re together in the office.
Sometimes that might mean getting together with one other person or in small groups to share ideas face to face. Or, you might meet as a department. Now and then, we may get the whole team in the office on the same day.
The point is, the day you come into the office doesn’t have to be just another day at the office. It’s not about putting in face time, it’s about reconnecting teams, strengthening our sense of community, and bringing an added dimension to the already great job you’re doing from home.
We think that’s what hybrid work should look like: not more of the same in two locations, but more of what matters wherever you work. And whether you’re at home or in the office, we know you’ll continue to be the best team ever.
For more on our return to office plan, see the FAQ here.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
Crit and Miles
Good afternoon,
After nearly 40 years serving the equipment finance industry – and growing LEAF into what it is today from the beginnings of an idea between two friends who weren’t entirely sure what they were getting into – Crit will be retiring in 2024.
As mentioned in our April email, Miles has assumed the role of LEAF CEO, while Crit is currently Chairman. The next natural step is Crit’s retirement, but until then, Crit will continue to work closely with Miles to support the transition. And don’t be surprised if he checks in often, even after he’s supposed to be officially retired.
As we said before, leading LEAF hasn’t been just something the two of us do. It’s been part of who we are. But after nearly four decades, it’s time to turn the page. And while this is a big change for you and us, we want you all to know we’re here for you throughout this transition and that there’s a lot to be excited about as we embark on the next leg of LEAF’s journey.
Thanks so much for being part of the journey with us!

Good afternoon,
Pursuing a career in equipment finance isn’t usually on the top ten list for college grads looking to enter the workforce. But as many of us have learned, once people are in, they tend to make a career here. So how can our industry overcome the tendency to fly under the radar and attract and recruit the best talent?
In a recent article in the ELFA’s Equipment Leasing & Finance magazine, Miles and Tara Berlingo join other industry leaders to offer their insights on how to meet this challenge with attractive internship programs. Miles and Tara also share how LEAF’s hands-on approach to training interns has proven to be successful over the years.

Good afternoon,
Fall's here, and with it, one of the busiest seasons here at LEAF. And true to form, there's a lot happening on the heels of a summer that went by too fast.
First, there's Circle of Champions. As mentioned in our last Town Hall meeting, this year's winners will be heading to Amelia Island, Florida, in March 2024. This looks like a fun spot to take a little break and enjoy some sun next spring, so good luck to everyone as we build on our momentum from the first three quarters of the year and push for a strong finish to 2023.
We're also happy to let you know that our 13th securitization, our largest at $637 million, just closed in August. It's been a while since we've done one of these – 2017 – but it's clear from the incredible work so many of you are putting in to make it happen that we haven't lost our touch. We've still got a lot of work to do, so thanks to all for continuing to go above and beyond on this.
Thanks also to everyone putting in a tremendous effort on the M&T technology conversion. The UAT team has finished testing ahead of the upcoming conversion of LEAF's systems to M&T technology on October 6th- 9th. To help ensure a smooth transition, please pay attention to all CommunityONE emails and other important updates from M&T.
Finally, as we head into the closing months of the year, we encourage everyone to make the most of your 40 paid volunteer hours to make a difference in the lives of others. Every hour counts and it all helps to build better communities for all of us. For those who provided shirt sizes, please be on the lookout for your official volunteering shirt coming soon and wear it whenever you volunteer to promote LEAF's commitment to giving back.
Until next time, thanks for all you do at LEAF!
Crit and Miles
Good morning,
With the conversion to the M&T technology platform coming up October 6th- 9th, it's a good time to go over what to do and expect before, during, and after the transition.
First, we want to remind everyone to pay close attention to all CommunityONE emails with LEAF Digest in the subject line, as well as any other conversion updates sent by M&T or LEAF. All LEAF systems will be completely unavailable once the conversion begins, and it's important that everyone completes all procedures outlined by M&T beforehand.
We're so proud of everyone's hard work to help prepare for this conversion, so as a reward for all you've done to support this important transition to M&T technology, everyone will receive time off for Friday, October 6th, and Monday, October 9th. Hourly team members will need to enter the time off in Workday using the "Emergency/Weather" code, which should not exceed eight hours per day. For those on assigned test teams, please reach out to your manager to discuss your time off.
Finally, with the conversion complete, it's critical that all hybrid and remote employees who have the ability to come into their office to be present onsite Tuesday, October 10th, to help test access to our systems and catch up on any backlogged work as we resume operations. Lunch will be provided to everyone present.
The days immediately following the conversion are likely to be especially busy, which is another reason to take advantage of your time off to relax and be ready to help ensure we resume normal operations as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Thanks for your help as we transition to M&T technology and for all you do every day to keep LEAF moving forward.

Hello,
With our conversion to the M&T technology platform starting soon, it's important we're all on the same page and communicating a clear, consistent message about our planned system downtime across all touchpoints.
Select dealers/vendors and customers will be notified by email of the conversion and the limited period of disruption associated with it. Our dealer and customer portals, corporate website, and company social media platforms will also feature an alert before and during conversion weekend to help limit any potential confusion.
Please be on the lookout for an email with instructions for updating your email signature to alert customers to the upcoming conversion, as well as details on an automated reply to all emails received beginning October 5th at 5:00 PM ET.
Please also take some time to review the internal FAQs and talking points linked below so you're prepared to answer questions. Internal FAQs are for internal use only and should not be distributed. These will be updated as new questions arise, so check back for updates.

Hello,
With the conversion to the M&T technology platform happening this week, it's essential that all of us communicate a clear, consistent message to partners and customers about why our system will be temporarily unavailable and when we will resume normal operations.
To help, please carefully read all the detailed instructions below, which include two very important to-dos and a few key items to be aware of before and during our conversion.
Urgent To-Do Items
First, it's critical that you update your email signature to ensure contacts are aware of the reason for our planned system downtime and when we will resume operations. All you need to do is copy and paste these lines under the phone number in your email signature today:
*All our systems will be unavailable from October 5th at 5:00 PM ET through October 9th for a technology conversion to help us continue delivering outstanding service. We appreciate your patience and will resume operations on October 10th.
Next, please be sure to update your WebEx voicemail prior to 5:00 PM ET on Thursday using the below script:
Hello, this is [your name]. Thank you for your call. I’m unavailable by phone or email from Thursday, October 5th at 5:00 PM ET through October 9th as we complete a system update. Please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible once we resume operations on October 10th.
Other Important Information to Know
Email auto-replies
Please be aware that M&T will set up an automated Mimecast reply to emails received by our system beginning Thursday, October 5th at 5:00 PM ET. Emails received from that time until Sunday, October 8th at 2:00 AM ET will receive this reply:
Thank you for your message. I will have no access to email or phone from Thursday, October 5th at 5:00 PM ET through October 9th as we complete a system update to help us continue delivering outstanding service to our partners and customers. I will get back to you as soon as possible once we resume operations on October 10th. Thanks again for reaching out. I look forward to connecting with you soon!
Please DO NOT set up an out-of-office message in your M&T email inbox due to the potential for breaking private label. If you do private label business, you will need to set up your default mailbox on Tuesday, October 10th.
The M&T messaging team will hold onto emails coming into our mailboxes after close of business on Thursday, and they will be delivered and available in your inbox on Tuesday, October 10th.
Automated voicemail messages
Note also that any calls received by our call center during conversion will receive this automated voicemail message:
Thank you for your call. Our team will be unavailable by phone or email from Thursday, October 5th at 5:00 PM ET through October 9th as we complete a system update. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible once we resume operations on October 10th.
You can also find these instructions on the LEAF Employee Hub under the M&T Technology Conversion Resources. Please check there often for the latest updates and reach out to your manager with any questions. Have a great rest of your day and thanks for your help in ensuring a smooth transition to M&T’s technology platform.

LEAF Corporate Communications
All personal and group emails that need to be retained must be forwarded to your M&T email before 5:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 5th
All personal and group emails received after 5:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 5th, will be held by the M&T messaging team and will be delivered to the appropriate personal or group email and available in your inbox on Tuesday, October 10th
Do not set any out of office message in Outlook for the conversion. M&T will set up an automated Mimecast reply to emails received by our system beginning Thursday, October 5th at 5:00 PM ET until Sunday, October 8th at 2:00 AM ET. Emails coming in after this time will be available in your inbox on Tuesday, October 10th
All existing calendar items must be re-set up in your M&T calendar by 5:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 5th, as nothing will transfer over
Only meeting planners from M&T can be forwarded manually to your M&T calendar
M&T is still finalizing the distribution list and group email boxes on their side, and should be done soon
There will be no access to your LEAF email after 5:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 5th. These emails and calendar items will no longer exist
Outlook/Authenticator/Duo MUST be removed from your personal cell phones by 5:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 5th

The testers for conversion weekend will be provided more information regarding the times they are needed for the various system testing. It is estimated that testing will start on Saturday, October 7th at 12:00 PM ET and Monday, October 9th at 8:00 AM ET
Testers who are working over the weekend should enter their time in Workday once we are able to access our systems on Tuesday, October 10th
For the time off on Friday, October 6th, and Monday, October 9th, hourly team members need to enter the time off in Workday using the "Emergency/Weather" code, which should not exceed eight hours per day
It's critical that all hybrid and remote employees who have the ability to come into their office be present onsite Tuesday, October 10th, to help test access to our systems and catch up on any backlogged work as we resume operations. These employees should plan to be there and log in to the system no earlier than 8:00 AM ET, unless otherwise directed that morning. If there are any delays, you will be notified by your Manager. Managers, please ensure you have the cell phone numbers for all members on your team. It can also be downloaded from Workday
